Think About Applying for OSAP
This many surprised some but many students do not know what OSAP is, or how to apply for it. Basically, OSAP is a provincial funding for college and university students. Parts of it consist of bursaries and/or scholarships and/or grants that do not have to be paid back while the main component is often a loan. This loan will build up until you graduate, interest (for the Ontario but not federal portion) and payment free. You then have 6 months to find a job and start making your payments.
The main requirement for a student applying for OSAP is that they are an Ontario resident and is either a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person. However, even if a student meets these these two requirements, they may still be ineligible to qualify due to other things; such as the amount their family, parents, or themselves. make whether you are married, independent, or a dependant; your academic progress and course load; and so on. If you are thinking about applying for OSAP, then make sure you qualify for the following in order to do so...
1) The name of the school you are attending
2) Your program of study, year level, and start and end date of the session (ex. September to April during the regular school year)
3) An estimate or record of your income and the income of anyone who might be supporting you (ex. your parents, spouse, etc.)
4) The current worth of your car or any other assets
5) Your OAN (OSAP Access Number)

If this is your first time applying for OSAP you will also need to fill out a form, the MSFAA (Master Student Financial Assistance Agreement). This form must be printed off and brought to an eligible Canada Post location but any other forms you need to fill out can, and should, be able to be filed online.
